Brad spent every night of his first few weeks on the Te Araroa Trail in his tent. When it rained, spending the night in the tent included cooking, eating, sleeping, reading, writing, studying maps, dressing and drying out. This year's wet spring made accommodations trying, at best, in one small tent for home.
A hut pass was purchased for $90, solving the problem. Brad reports it's the best purchase he's made. Here are some hut pictures. They are frequently tiny but often cute and colorful. They are made of wood, stone or tin. But, after hiking all day in the rain they are always welcome. And, great for hanging out with newly made friends.
