Based on my map reading, the first town Brad came to, at the south end of 90 Mile Beach, was Ahipara. I had hoped to receive an e-mail from Ahipara, but nope -- nothing. Either he couldn't find a computer or he was anxious to keep hiking. Ahipara looks to be the gateway to the 90 Mile Beach, where surfing, horseback riding, dune buggies and other outdoor activities abound.
